Summer Camp Counselor Accused of Sexually Assaulting Three 10-Year-Olds
On September 3, NBC Bay Area reported that a summer camp counselor in Gilroy was facing allegations of sexually assaulting three 10-year-old girls. In total, the defendant faces five separate counts of felony child molestation for a number of incidents that occurred at a swim center this summer. Prosecutors are now incensed that this man was able to post bail after each of his three separate arrests.
He now faces a potential life sentence if convicted on all five counts. The YMCA of Silicon Valley is also facing serious questions after hiring this individual and ostensibly allowing him to harm young children. Three separate children came forward with allegations against the man, one by one. All said that the counselor molested them in the pool. Local officials believe that additional victims may have been harmed, and they are urging families with more information to come forward.
School Cafeteria Worker Convicted of Raping Student in Marin County
On September 9th, the Marin Independent Journal reported that a former school cafeteria worker had been convicted of rape by a Marin County court. A jury found the 28-year-old guilty of rape, unlawful intercourse with a minor, and numerous additional charges. An additional charge of oral copulation by force resulted in a deadlocked jury.
The man was working at various schools throughout the Tamalpais Union High School District when he came into contact with a 15-year-old student. The pair subsequently engaged in a six-month-long sexual relationship. This relationship was violent, resulting in physical injuries to the child on at least one occasion.
During testimony, the girl admitted that the defendant first began purchasing alcohol and marijuana on her behalf, gaining her trust before the relationship progressed. Prosecutors also pointed to a separate incident involving another teen girl, in which the victim barely escaped being sexually assaulted while intoxicated.
With this conviction out of the way, the attention now turns to the potential contributions of the local school district. Did any teachers or staff members become aware of the sexual relationship? Did the district carry out proper vetting and background checks when hiring this individual? Depending on the circumstances, this could lead to a separate civil lawsuit against the district.
Teacher Pleads Not Guilty to Two Felony Child Sexual Assault Charges
On August 27th, Coastside News reported that a former coach and teacher had pleaded not guilty to felony child sexual assault charges in the Bay Area. The incidents occurred almost 20 years ago, and they have led to the arrest of the 61-year-old defendant. A former student previously came forward and accused the man of sexually assaulting her in 2008. At the time, she was an athlete and student at the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD).
According to the allegations, the abuse began when the student was just 16. The pair continued their sexual relationship even after the minor had graduated from high school, with the student eventually living with her abuser until 2017. A CUSD representative refused to comment on whether the district was aware of the sexual relationship and failed to do anything about it.
Former Berkeley Softball Athlete Sues University for Allowing Sexual Abuse
On September 3, 2026, the New York Times reported that a former Berkeley student and softball athlete was suing her university for allowing a coach to sexually abuse her. According to the survivor, her softball coach began communicating with her in 2023 outside of athletic pursuits before the relationship eventually became romantic.
The coach then used her position of authority and trust to pressure the student into continuing the relationship. First, the athlete experienced reduced playing time and opportunities if she did not respond quickly enough to text messages or remain receptive to the coach’s advances. When the sexual relationship began to dwindle, the coach even threatened to kill herself.
