Multiple Transit Accidents Reported Across the Bay Area

Fatal Highway 4 Crash Halts BART Service

BART Police Officers Injured in High-Speed Crash

In late December of 2024, a major crash in Oakland injured three BART police officers. All three were hospitalized as a result of the high-speed collision, which occurred at 3 PM near West Oakland Station. Authorities say that the three officers were in two SUVs, and that they were responding to an overdose at the station. While traveling to the station at high speed, the SUVs reportedly collided with a medical supply vehicle. 

It is not clear whether the medical supply vehicle was also responding to the overdose. Police are trying to determine whether alcohol or distraction played a role in the crash. People Continue to Be Struck by BART Trains

Several people have been struck by BART trains within the past few days. The first incident occurred between Civic Center Station and Powell Street Station, and police say a person was struck while on the tracks for unknown reasons. The collision proved fatal, and it caused BART to temporarily suspend its service.

A more disturbing incident occurred later in January when an assailant intentionally pushed an elderly lady onto the tracks at the Powell Street Station. She reportedly suffered head injuries and passed away despite being rushed to a nearby hospital. The assailant was arrested and charged with homicide. Although BART quickly dismissed this incident as “rare,” this is not the first time people have been shoved onto the tracks in the Bay Area.

AC Bus Crashes in Oakland, Causing One Injury

On New Year’s Day of 2025, an AC Transit bus crashed in Oakland, causing one injury. First responders noted that one person had suffered a dislocated shoulder, and they were removed from the scene in a stretcher. Authorities released little additional information, but photos from the scene indicate that an SUV was involved. It was not clear whether the injured victim was a passenger in the bus or an occupant of the SUV.
