Mary Alexander Honored With 2021 CLAY Award
Mary Alexander & Associates, P.C. is proud to announce that Mary Alexander has been honored as a recipient of the California Lawyer of the Year (CLAY) award for 2021 from the Daily Journal for her work for plaintiffs in the Ghost Ship Fire case, one of the deadliest structure fires in United States history. The case challenged the extreme negligence of property management by the owners & property manager, as well as failure to enforce proper safety measures by the city of Oakland, which inevitably caused the fire which resulted in the death of 36 people & injured others.
Mary Alexander, in liaison with executive committee members Bale, Brandi, and Dolan, hammered out a $32.7 million settlement after a 3 ½ year legal battle with Oakland officials, along with an undisclosed amount to be paid by PG&E, as well as millions more from the building’s owners. Alexander is proud to have served as lead counsel in this heart-wrenching case and to have won the families of the dead some settlement, even if there could never be any consolation for the massive, horrifying loss of life that occurred at the warehouse.
We are so proud to have Mary’s accomplishments in this case recognized by the Daily Journal and know that every client whose situation she has improved with her tireless devotion to justice would agree.
